A former 18th-century printing house, now a quiet retreat inside the storied walls of Galle Fort.
A former printing house in the heart of UNESCO heritage listed Galle Fort, now a quiet hotel filled with character, The Fort Printers moves at its own pace. Behind its thick walls, ten rooms are shaped by original features, antique details, and the quiet elegance of a lived-in space. Some open onto leafy courtyards, others are tucked beneath high ceilings and wooden beams. There’s a calm here — in the shaded poolside afternoons, the hush of the Writer’s Room, and the soft rise and fall of bells and calls drifting through the Fort.

Quiet luxury, rooted in history
Each of the ten rooms follow the shape of the old school building, meaning no two rooms are the same. Some spaces are tucked away under high beams, others open to the light. Room names like The Headmaster’s, The Prefect’s, and Geography quietly nod to the building’s past. The 41 Church Street Suites and 65 Pedlar Street Villa offer more space just beyond the main house, but keep the same feel. It’s all been kept simple — a mix of old structure, lived-in charm, and thoughtful detail.

Life inside Galle fort
Step outside and you’re in the heart of Galle Fort—a small, walled town shaped by centuries of history. Built by the Portuguese, fortified by the Dutch, it’s a quiet mix of faded mansions, temples, mosques, cafés, and everyday life. Days move slowly here. You’ll hear the call to prayer, the ring of a bicycle bell, the sea just beyond the ramparts. It’s a place best explored on foot, with no need to rush.
